Which do I need more?

By: Sonny Bunch

A Democratic vote in congress or a .40 semi-automatic glock? Well, let’s see…Eleanor Holmes Norton isn’t going to stop the homeless guy who followed my upstairs neighbor into the house I used to live in in Southeast DC. And it’s not like she’s going to be the tiebreaking vote in any legislation any time soon.

I’ll go with the Glock .

I’m pretty ambivalent about voting rights, insofar as I think that DC citizens should probably have a vote in Congress and in the Senate, but also think that achieving this by act of Congress is clearly unconstitutional. But if that’s what it takes to get a handgun in my cold, living hand, fine, do it.

The most important question is this one: When the Supreme Court strikes down the legislation granting the District a vote in Congress, what happens to the amendment gutting DC’s handgun ban? What are the odds that the Court strips the District of a vote AND I get to keep the gun I scurry out to purchase after the legislation passes?
