About the Role
The development team is looking for an experienced Grant Writer to write proposals and reports for foundations, corporations, and select individuals, covering all aspects of Reason’s work. The Grant Writer will work closely with the rest of the development team to meet commitments to existing grants and to generate new sources of revenue.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5+ years of experience working in grant writing or donor communications and understand the nuances associated with authoring compelling grant proposals. The ability to manage the lifecycle of the grant process and liaise with other teams to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports is vital.
Reporting to the Director of Grants, this is a full-time position with the option to be in-office in Los Angeles, CA or Washington, DC, or to work virtually anywhere in the US.
Responsibilities
- Work with the development team to write proposals and reports for existing funders
- Draft letters of inquiry to prospective foundation donors
- Author compelling grant proposals for foundation and other grantmakers
- Copyedit the development team’s written products (board books, direct mail, email, etc.)
- Collaborate and liaise with the policy, government relations, and marketing teams to gather detailed information for grant proposals and reports
- Manage, track, and maintain accurate records of grant writing activities, reporting, renewal requests, and deadlines in Salesforce
- Ensure timely submission of proposals and reports
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of writing experience
- Grant writing, and/or donor communications experience is a plus
- Ability to travel up to 5%
- Superior writing skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts
- Strong attention to detail
- Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to effectively managing multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines
- Knowledge of or ability to learn how to use Salesforce and/or other project management tools
- Alignment with Reason’s mission to advance libertarian principles
Compensation
The projected salary range for this role is $60,000-$80,000. This salary is contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
