AF around the Country 2019: Great NeighborsAcross the country, young people are recognizing the important role they play in building communities and supporting those in need. Rather than looking to government solutions, chapters put in the time, donated their funds and learned about important innovations to solve the causes of poverty, not just the symptoms. Take a look at some of the ways AF chapters invested in their communities this year.

For the third year running, AF-Detroit sponsored the Children’s Entrepreneurship Fair, teaching kids valuable skills and giving away prizes in the process.

In Raleigh, Earth Day presented an opportunity to both contribute to the community while rebuilding the earth. They got to work planting a community garden.

AF around the Country 2019: Great Neighbors 1AFF-Austin recognized the challenges faced by the homeless community in their city. They paid a visit to the Community First! Village, which was designed to meet the needs of the homeless while helping them build skills and businesses.

AFF-Midland hosted two events in collaboration with Former Offenders and Advocacy group.

A vital piece of investing in a community is recognizing the role philanthropy plays in building a flourishing civil society. To inspire young leaders to consider building a habit of giving early, AF teamed up with the Novus Society, a Donor Advised fund for people under 40. In Dallas, DC, and Atlanta, Howard Husock talked about his newest book, Who Killed Civil Society, while Detroit hosted a deep dive into the importance of philanthropy and ways to achieve impact through volunteering and giving.
