Richard Lorenc’s Letter to the Washington Post
A letter to the editor of the Washington Post, written by AF’s National Chapter Coordinator, Richard Lorenc, was published yesterday. Lorenc takes issue with an earlier op-ed which failed to distinguish between private-sector and public-sector unions while lamenting the failure of Wisconsin’s gubernatorial recall election. Gov. Walker’s collective bargaining reform only affected public-sector union employees.
Lorenc also points out that the public-sector unions have seen a dramatic reduction in membership (up to 55%) since Walker’s reforms stripped them of their ability to compel membership, concluding that “If workers choose not to join a union voluntarily, perhaps it should fade away.”
