Are you ready for some football?
I am. America’s long national nightmare is over. I think the Sports Guy’s summary of just how crazy this offseason has been is a fair one; I can’t believe that the following nugget came in at #11:
11. Former Titans star Steve McNair was killed by his 20-year-old mistress (who then killed herself), then mourned as everyone tried to ignore the elephant in the room: McNair, a married guy with four kids, was a beloved person and a transcendent teammate by all accounts … so we shouldn’t dwell on the fact that he reportedly had multiple girlfriends and a bachelor pad two miles from his house. Actually, this wasn’t weird. It was just depressing.
I’d also like to say that I’m very nervous at just how many pundits are picking my Green Bay Packers to make it to the Super Bowl (Simmons even has them winning). As far as I can tell, the team’s biggest problem (defensive lapses in the fourth quarter) haven’t really been solved. I agree that Rodgers is primed for a breakout year, but he was pretty damn good last year too, and that team went 6-10. We’ll see. I can’t wait to play Brett Favre twice: it’s about time his fourth quarter picks helped the Packers instead of killing them.
