Balls & Bosses: Unions Take on College Sports
On June 9, the Jackson Chapter of AF hosted its second event at the Mississippi Braves Stadium in Pearl, Miss. The event, “Balls & Bosses: Unions Take on College Sports,” focused on union activity in the world of college athletics. Local attorney and former National Labor Relations Board nominee Pepper Crutcher spoke to the group, providing an overview of recent actions taken by unions to organize private university athletic programs. Despite torrential rains, tornadic weather, and the fact that this event competed with the televised baseball game deciding whether Ole Miss would make it to the College World Series, the Jackson AF event attracted about 15 individuals interested in learning more about unions, college sports, and the AF club itself.
