Detroit: Kind of terrible
Matt Labash, long one of America’s great national treasures, has written a fantastic (and fantastically long) look at Detroit’s collapse in the latest issue of The Weekly Standard. As I informed the author after reading his piece yesterday, it’s easy to focus on the political corruption and awful business practices of the car companies and the unions and lose sight of the real world impact all those policies have on the city and its inhabitants. Matt’s piece ably keeps his eye on the prize (while simultaneously giving the politicians and businesses a thumping).
Do yourself a favor: print this out and read it at some point over the holidays. It’s well worth your time.
