The late congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis famously said, “Without freedom of speech and the right to dissent, the civil rights movement would have been a bird without wings.” FIRE Director of Public Advocacy Aaron Terr will explain why free speech is indispensable to any movement for social or political change and discuss recent challenges and triumphs in the ongoing struggle to defend Americans’ right to speak freely in Philadelphia and beyond.
