Welcome to Washington – Summer 2019

June 27, 2019 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Heritage Foundation

214 Massachusetts Ave. NE, Washington, DC, 20002

Each year, thousands of interns and young professionals come to Washington hoping to make a name for themselves and land their dream job. How can you stand out from the competition? How can you grow your skill set and become better connected?

Join America’s Future Foundation, The Heritage Foundation, and the Leadership Institute for the Summer 2019 Welcome to Washington event. Learn how to write a professional resume, network like a pro, and build your dream career from a panel of DC insiders. They’ll offer advice on navigating the job market in Washington, discuss their paths to professional success, and answer YOUR questions.

PLUS: get your resume reviewed and receive personalized feedback from the experts at the Leadership Institute! They’ll provide positive resume critiques and ways to optimize your resume for that next job application. If you’re interested in having your resume critiqued (please note this is optional), send your resume to [email protected] by Friday, June 21. You’ll then receive your reviewed resume at the event. Need a place to start with your resume (or need to overhaul)? Check out this template from the Leadership Institute.

Stick around afterward for a reception to network with young professionals from across the city as well as established DC-ers. Whether you’re interning or getting established in your career, don’t miss this opportunity to break into DC!

Welcome to Washington - Summer 2019 2Emma Meshell
– Director of Campusreform.org’s Correspondent Program, Leadership Institute

Emma is the director of Campusreform.org’s correspondent program. She is responsible for the recruitment, training, and management of Campus Reform’s team of student journalists, a team that she was formerly a part of as an Oregon campus correspondent. Prior to joining Campus Reform, she worked for the Freedom Foundation in Portland, Oregon. Her work centered around opt-out marketing campaigns to government union members and management of a statewide canvassing team.

Welcome to Washington - Summer 2019 3Katy (Ranville) Gambella – Network Engagement Manager, Talent Market and AF-Charlotte Chapter Leader

Katy is Talent Market’s network engagement manager where she works to fill entry and junior-level roles for liberty advancing organizations throughout the United States. She began her career at the Institute for Humane Studies and later joined the Cato Institute. Starting at Cato as a research assistant, Katy quickly realized her comparative advantage (and preference!) is to work with people and not to do policy research. During her participation in the Koch Associate Program, she moved into her role in student programs, where she spent nearly four years recruiting, hiring, and supervising more than 300 interns. Katy is a Midwesterner at heart and a very recently adopted Southerner. She was raised in Michigan, where her family still lives, and she studied economics at Hillsdale College. After graduation she spent seven years in Washington, DC. She now lives in Charlotte, NC, with her husband. They plan to visit every brewery in the region on a quality control tour.
