Everybody hates their health care
Ezra has this neat little chart up, which he thinks shows that Brits are much happier with their health care system than Americans. In a way, I suppose it does. Check it out:
I think a far more accurate way of describing this chart, however, is to say that nobody likes the health care they have! Seriously, look at those numbers: only the Dutch have something approaching a majority of people who seem relatively contented with their health care coverage. And almost 60% of the Dutch think their health care system is fundamentally flawed. In every other country, 3/4 of the citizens think that their health care system is unsatisfactory during an age in which the quality and length of life are at historic highs.
If I can channel my inner-Gramm: We are a civilization of whiners. From top to bottom. This chart proves nothing about the quality of health care provided in the nations polled. But it does prove that people always think the grass is greener on their neighbor’s plot of land. (Except in the Netherlands, where the majority of the citizenry is probably too stoned to object to much of anything.*)
*I kid, I love the Netherlands and all the potheads therein.
