Learn It, Live It, Love It: The Holiday Cheer Edition

By: Cindy Cerquitella

Learn It:
Giving Tuesday has come and gone (thanks to everyone who donated!), but the end of the year is a crucial time for many nonprofit and charitable organizations. If you feel overwhelmed by all the groups asking for support, follow Howard Husock’s advice: look local, and look for groups doing work you love and think is important.

Here are a couple of other articles to check out: Picking, Saving and Bunching, Youth Sunday Lessons about the Meaning of Community and Millenials are Givers, and Uniquely So.

Also, keep in mind that if you’re ready to take your philanthropic giving to the next level, consider joining the Novus Society, a donor advised fund for people under 40. You can open an account for just $1000, and if you do so before December 31, DonorsTrust will add an additional $500 to your account!

Live it:
AF Chapters around the country are hosting events and giving back to their communities during this holiday season, if you’re in Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, Dallas, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Jacksonville be sure to check out what’s coming up!

For those in the DC area: I am so excited to check out this new exhibition at the Arcetechouse. I haven’t made it to one of their shows yet, but this one seems too good to miss!

Huge Congratulations to Darcy Olson and her organization Generation Justice for winning the inaugural Peterson Prize this week! Generation Justice works to bring transparency and reform to the foster care and family services system — one filled with corruption and mismanagement. Her work to improve the lives of children, and to ensure they grow up in safe, caring homes is such an inspiration.
