Learn it, Live it, Love it: The Tardy Edition

Learn It:
I believe a big piece of personal responsibility is recognizing that you have agency over your own experience. Sure, office politics and personalities can play a role, but it can be so helpful to recognize there are strategies to alter situations that may not be working for you. To that end, here are two great articles on ways to take control in your work life:

1. I love this great worksheet and guide on how to be a leader in your organization, no matter your title.

2. Here’s another useful piece on how to set boundaries and take control of your work environment.

Live it:
Last week was a doozy when it came to political fighting. With both the president and “The Squad” out name-calling each other, I couldn’t help but wonder what bigger, more serious news they were overshadowing. I loved Nick Gillespie’s recent piece in Reason about the importance of rising above political fights, stepping away from the comments and think pieces and just straight-up living. After all, the government controls what bags we take to the grocery store and what our straws are made of, but they don’t control what you spend your time thinking about.

Ed. Note: I’m not encouraging any political affiliation one way or the other, I’m simply encouraging all of us to rise above these weekly frays.

Not too long ago, Cord Blomquist ran AF’s digital presence; he now runs his own digital strategy company, Tallest Tree Digital. He’s recently launched a podcast and the first two episodes feature fixtures of AF events back in the day, Rob Montz (director at We the Internet) and Scott Barton (director of communications at Pacific Legal Foundation).

*My apologies for being late on this week’s post, FreedomFest got the better of me.
