Stupid businesspeak
This list of 10 Business Words to Ban barely touches the tip of the iceberg. Here are three better suggestions:
“Deliverable” — Couches are deliverables. Babies are deliverables. Most things could be better described as products or services.
“Going-forward basis” — As in, “from now on.” Commonly heard example: “We’re going to grow our business on a going-forward basis.”
“Grow” as a transitive verb — You don’t grow businesses. You grow tomatoes, basil, or plants that can be processed into narcotic substances and sold at a profit. (Most likely at higher profit margins than products produced by people who talk about growing their businesses.)
