U.S. strikes targets in Syria
The U.S. military confirms that it launched a special forces strike near the town of Abu Kamal, inside Syria, a few miles over the border from Iraq.
I don’t know enough about who we were targeting or what we accomplished to opine on whether or not it was worth it, but let’s note that our military is now undertaking combat operations in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In two (or arguably three) of these cases, we have the support of the local government, but we are, how you say, wearing out our welcome.
Another interesting wrinkle: the strike comes as Syria and Israel are conducting peace negotiations through Turkey. I wonder how it’ll influence those.
