These Aren’t the Drones You’re Looking For: Examining America’s Drone Strike Policy

12 hours and 52 minutes.

That’s how long Kentucky Senator Rand Paul spent on the floor of the Senate on March 6th filibustering the nomination of John Brennan to head up the CIA. Why? Because Brennan, Attorney General Eric Holder, and the President had refused to provide Sen. Paul a clear statement that they did not posses the authority to order a drone strike on an American citizen on American soil.

We already know that the President has utilized drones to execute those who populate a “kill list” of enemy combatants on foreign soil — on an American citizen in at least one case. But just how much authority should the President have? Should American citizens on foreign soil be afforded due process before being executed? Should drone use ever be permissible on American soil?

Join America’s Future Foundation – Chicago on Wednesday, March 20th, as we debate these questions about drone strikes both here and abroad.
