12 Days of AF: Dallas Chapter
Over the course of 2021, America’s Future here in Dallas, Texas has seen an amazing revitalization! Earlier this year, this chapter resumed in-person events, and ever since, we have made significant strides in growing our membership. Having only joined the Dallas chapter in July, I am beyond grateful for this new network of young professionals who believe in individual liberty.
The best event – and my first event – organized by our former chapter leader, Ivy El-Zaatari, focused on an issue that truly spoke to the hearts and minds of the American people… freeing Britney Spears! This event featured two Dallas based attorneys who had personal experience with litigation concerning unfair conservatorships placed on a former Dallas Cowboy. This event presented our attendees with a new lens through which to view the issue of not only how a conservatorship is imposed on an individual, but also on how the system can be abused once a citizen is bound to a conservator – or in the case of this Dallas Cowboy, when someone is assigned a government-appointed conservator whom they have never met.
I was beyond excited to step up as Chapter Leader in September to continue to build on the successes and accomplishments that Ivy achieved throughout the reinvigoration of AF-Dallas. Since our #FreeBritney event in August, we hosted some incredible speakers to test-run our education campaign for 2022 centered around ‘Government Transparency’. As we began to explore this idea, we realized that it would be impossible for people to promote transparency if we didn’t have a firm grasp on what exactly our local and county governments were charged with governing over…
Since setting out to educate our community on the functions and duties of their government, we have heard from some incredible speakers. First, we hosted Mr. Will Douglas, a DFW based small business owner, who shared his experience dealing with harmful government regulations over small businesses, as well as hardships that he has faced since COVID shook the nation’s economy. In September, AF-Dallas invited the lone conservative on the Commissioners Court, Commissioner JJ Koch to come speak on the issues of transparency that he has witnessed first-hand on the county court. For our Halloween event in October, we hosted Addison City Councilwoman Lori Ward who shared stories about the ‘Boos and Brews’ of municipal bureaucracy.
Most recently, AF-Dallas leadership decided that as we get closer-and-closer to 2022, it was important for us to provide our members with the tools necessary to become active advocates for a transparent government in their communities across the DFW metroplex. For our November event, we hosted a representative from the Texas Destination Resort Alliance to speak on what professional advocacy looks like, and what our members can do TODAY to make a difference in their communities.
The future is looking bright for the America’s Future Chapter here in Dallas, TX, and if you live in DFW, we hope you join us for the exciting ride to come!
