Most Ambitious Subhed Ever
From Charles Krauthammer’s longish piece in The Weekly Standard, “The Net-Zero Gas Tax”:
A once-in-a-generation way to weaken OPEC, abolish absurd regulations, reduce greenhouse gases, improve our trade balance, gain significant energy independence, spur conservation–and humble Russia, Venezuela, and Iran.
It’s an interesting piece, and I think the underlying idea is a good one, even if the particulars are somewhat flawed (as Jim Manzi ably discusses here). But if something’s going to be done, it needs to be done now, while gas taxes are still low and the memory of $4/gal gas remains fresh.
