About the Director of Development Operations Role
State Policy Network is growing rapidly, raising more than $25 million in 2023. We are looking for talented individuals to continue to scale our efforts. SPN is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Director of Development Operations to play a critical part in driving the advancement of SPN’s mission and strategic objectives. Collaborating with key team members, you will lead SPN’s development and operations teams through strategic initiatives and ensure the seamless execution of development projects that revolve around drivers such as budgets, data, goals and revenue. You will oversee a team to ensure progress toward fundraising goals and manage projects from inception to completion. The Director of Development Operations will manage a team to ensure all development backend needs are met.

Primary responsibilities are to see that:

  • Data Analysis, Development Team Budget Management and Revenue Handling are Excellent
    • Produce revenue data required for Board meetings in a timely manner and ensure 100% accuracy.
    • Produce weekly fundraising report for Leadership and Development Team.
    • Create and manage SPN’s development team budget and ensure accuracy on team’s expense reports.
    • Ensure high standard of excellence on reconciliation.
    • Execute process for revenue handling.
    • Analyze and report on key performance indicators and trends.
    • Collaborate on defining critical measures to track year over year and quarterly progress.
    • Manage various projects for the development team as needed.
    • Monitor industry fundraising trends and suggest how this might change what SPN measures or how this might impact SPN’s development work.
    • Facilitate direct mail program and assess performance.
  • Ensure All Backend Data Needs are Met for the Development Team
    • Ensure that Salesforce database list pulls are accurate and a streamlined process is in place to request lists for activities such as mailings and events.
    • Work with SPN’s operations team so that Salesforce development data is excellent and organized, including each fundraiser’s portfolio.
    • Ensure a process is in place to request highest priority, customized Salesforce dashboards, which includes how we identify and track key performance indicators.
  • Act as Key Partner for Frontline Fundraisers
    • Manage the entire projection process and ensure projections are complete before SPN’s budgeting process begins.
    • Monitor individual fundraisers’ progress towards goals and key metrics throughout each quarter with analysis of reports and keep Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships apprised of progress and red flags.
    • Lead all table of gift, metrics and other meetings around focused projections.
    • Produce revenue reports, track relevant data, and provide context as it relates to fundraising goals.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of backend/operational fundraising experience.
  • Salesforce experience or strong familiarity with CRMs and other relevant data management tools.
  • Proven experience in team leadership, project management, and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently as needed.
  • Strong interest in advancing State Policy Network’s mission and impact.
  • Limited travel required (15%).

Preferred

  • Proven execution of project management via collaboration tools such as Basecamp.
  • Experience in a supervisor role of at least one direct report.
  • Experience facilitating direct mail logistics and assessing program performance.
