Obama reshuffles Middle East posts?

By: David Donadio

Jill Biden’s hilarious gaffe on Oprah, that her husband Joe was initially offered his choice of the Secretary of State spot or the vice presidency in an Obama administration, brings to mind a rumor of another political permutation: I’ve heard rumblings that Sen. George Mitchell might actually become the next Middle East envoy, with Dennis Ross coordinating things in Washington. Mitchell, of course, is known for his role in the Northern Irish peace process, and the Good Friday Agreement, for which he earns points here at home. He’s also Arab-American, for which he earns points in the countries he’ll have to negotiate with. (Though not Iran, of course.)
